WHL WEEKLY VOLUME 2, number 8 Here's the new edition of the WHL Weekly Mag. After the long delay, the league is running again. Time is starting to work against some teams, who'll need some serious help if they want to make it to the playoffs. CONTENTS: 1- Overall team stats 2- Rookie Report 3- Player of the week 4- Goaltender of the week 5- Weekly trades 6- League Notes, by Michael Hebert 1- OVERALL TEAM STATS: The teams are ranked primarily by the percentage, and then, in case of a tie, by the number of wins, and finally, in case of another tie, by the difference between the GF and GA. The Lunatics are still red hot this week. The Dominators also had a very good week, as did the Sparrows, both undefeated. But the performance of the week was by the Corinthians, who recovered from a desastrous week of 1-3-1, by lining 5 wins. Saku Koivu had a 9 points week, both with the Mustangs and the Corinthians, and jumped from the 18th position to the 11th. The guy really seems to appreciate playing with the Corinthians. Expect to see him in the top 10 soon. Among the goaltenders, Kingston Corinthians' Philippe DeRouville had a tremendous week, propulsing him in the number 1 spot. Jamie Storr of the Vikings is number 2. It's not getting better, it is getting worse. Come on people, take 5 minutes of your time to tell me who was good on your team and who was not. Some players had tremendous weeks but since nobody told me, their performances went unnoticed. Our player of the week is Mike Modano of the Des Moines Dominators. Modano scored 5 goals, adding 5 assists in 5 games last week. Runners up were, Saku Koivu and Jeff Friesen, both from the Kingston Corinthians, Joe Juneau of the Chicoutimi Sparrows, and Greg Gilbert from the Struer Norsemen. They were renamed the Stallions. Perhaps the team's owners wanted to run away from some fanatics who were upset because Koivu was traded. -In Chicoutimi, GM Michael Hebert is still trying to trade left winger Dave Thomlinson. He said that he received a few offers for him, but nothing interesting enough to trade him yet. The Sparrows are still trying to get Lunatics winger Vincent Damphousse, but without any success. -A source in the league headquarters indicated that league scouts have started working on next year's draft. They are currently finding all the eligible players and rating them. -WHL Commissioner said he was keeping an eye on the Voodoo's GM moves. "I have to admit that they have an uncommon strategy. That's why I want to make sure that they know what they are doing, and that they don't work their way around any rules." The Voodoo now have 15 draft picks in the first 3 rounds in the next draft (6 1st picks, 4 2nd picks, 5 3rd picks). That's all for this week! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Send comments, suggestions, NOMINATIONS... to: MARC HEBERT Official WHL newsman fj491599@er.uqam.ca CAUTION!
