Keep it up guys, participation is good so far this season and I believe it will be a very interesting season, with a lot of involved general managers. I remind you that only players that are nominated stand a chance to be awarded the player, goaltender or defenseman of the week award. It isn't a vote, just that you tell me who you feel should be looked at as a potentiel player of the week. This week's player of the week is Theoren Fleury of the Surrey Strangers. Last week, Fleury had a very good week, collecting 8 goals and adding 3 assists for an amazing total of 11 points in 5 games. The runners up were Joe Nieuwendyk of the Des Moines Dominators and Vincent Damphousse of the Waterloo Lunatics. I have been in WHL since Kevin Nash started it and I think it's damn good league, that I plan to win within the next three season. I'm 22 years old and live in the kingdom of Sweden, which is the most respected broke country in world. I work at Combitech Electronics, which is company within the SAAB Aerospace group. I test, develop and manufactor advanced civil and military electronic hardware. I'm have still not found the women of my dreams, but I'm working on it....and I think I made some progress last weekend or did I drink one beer to much? I have huge sport interest and I watch every sport, but when we talk soccer and football I am more than just a ordinary fan. I'm a true fanatic.... Liverpool is my favorite football team and I dream about someday walking on the grass of the Anfield Road. I also follow my local hockey team throw good and bad times and I have seen every single home game the past 7 seasons and many away games as well. Bruins is the team in my heart in NHL. They're not the best, but I will never stop support them. I played hockey as kid, but these days I just play floorhockey in the Division 4 of the National League system. I'm also one of two the coaches of the team. Oh, I also follow the stock-market close since this summer...I used to think it was only very boring persons with no life that did that, but hey, it's kind of cool when you buying with your own future. Does, this mean that I have no life?? :) My favorite band is Oasis......Can it get better? But I like all kind of music...and right now I do think Meredith Brooks album is the best out there. And no, I will never trade Forsberg, Renberg, Dahlen, Ohlund or Samuelsson if Kent Nilsson doesn't make a comeback in the WHL. - Andy "92" Larsson 17-TEAMS' TIDBITS The CORINTHIANS --------------- Kingston - The Corinthians are off to a good start, even if there has been 4 injuries to key players so far; Keith Tkachuk, Dominik Hasek, Stephane Fiset and Jason Dawe. The team has played only 1 game this season with a complete roster, but they still managed to have a very good record. Still, there has been rumours in Kingston last week. Apparently, veteran goaltender Dominik Hasek has been offered to the Voodoo. Teemu Selanne was reported to be involved in the deal but the talks broke when the Voodoo asked for Sergei Gonchar to be involved in the deal. GM Hebert of the Corinthians would also have had talks with the Steelcats about the acquisition of Martin Brodeur. Why would they want him with Hasek, Fiset and prospects Jose Theodore, Jean-Francois Damphousse and Martin Biron down in the farm is stilla mystery to me. We'll let you know if anything happens. - Luc Gelinas pour Sports 30 The STALLIONS ------------- Bill Ranford is still looking to sign with a club. His agent Imma Crook, noted that "...a Team like the Venom, who are rated 16th in Goals Allowed with over 4 goals per game, while having the lowest Shots Against could truly use a quality Goaltender. Other teams like the N.O.D., VooDoo or Agents all could use Ranford, why Toronto hasn't moved him yet is beyond me. Bill Ranford's career G.A.A. is 3.38, that is lower than 15 teams!!! He should be playing!" GM Howe reportedly called Mr. Crook regarding his comments, and wasn't happy that Imma implied that Toronto isn't trying to move Bill. "We have tried to move Bill, I would like to see him play as much as he wants to get back on the ice. But noone is showing an interest. Yes, a few teams could use him. Yes, he could make a difference. But noone is calling." Bill was rather quiet regarding the whole affair. Although he did take a shot at the league's General Managers; "...They seem to be more interested in sticking with what they have than going after someone who could help them. I could at least help some struggling goaltender get back on track. I'd be happy with a backup job, although I'd prefer a starters position! I'll take what I can get, I just want out of Toronto." Bill is currently practicing with the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The KRUSHERS ------------ There is a rumour around Chi-Town the the Krushers would be after a right winger. Apparently, if we are to believe the rumours, one of their two 1st round draft picks would be on the market in order to acquire this right winger. The DOMINATORS -------------- The Des Moines Dominators are very pleased by the play of Joe Nieuwendyk. He has filled the spot of Mike Modano very well. Brett Hull has also played his role better than what the Dominators management expected. Right now, besides Bob Bassen, the left side for the Dominators isn't performing up to the task. A trade in the near future to correct the problem. The defense for the Dominators is isn't quite producing the points that they did last year but they are fairing pretty well. Right now the Dominators are gonna stick with the defensemen that they have and wait to see how there draft picks develop. Sean Burke has played all eleven games for the Dominators and had a great first six games but the last five wasn't the greatest. Mike Richter is gonna be getting some starts in the next few games just to give Burke some rest. The FURY -------- Excellent veteran goaltender Jeff Hackett is rumoured on the block from the Fort Saskatchewan Fury. Hackett's name was mentionned in trade rumors with the Voodoo last week but apparently nothing came out of it. Rumour says that as the Fury are defenitely out of contention, Hackett could well be moved before the trading deadline, as a goalie with his abilities is better suited on a contender. The VIKINGS ----------- Vikings News and Notes The Vikings had a very successful week, going 5-1-0, which included a victory over the Edmonton Eagles in their last game ever. "You never like to see a team fail but we were firmly entrenched in this market from day one. Hindsight is always 20-20 and we didn't make it easy on them being as successful as we have been. Plus there's another team, albeit a bad one, 20 minutes down the road in Fort Saskatchewan. This is a good market but it's not that good," GM Lee McEwen commented. The renamed and transplanted Eagles named McEwen's younger brother Denny their GM. "While he's got as tough job there no question, there's lots of youth to work with. It'll help being in a market like Seattle where the pressure to win won't be as big as it is up here." With 5 goals against the Hamilton Steelcats, left-winger Brendan Shanahan set a team record for most goals in a game. "It was just one of those games where I was getting the puck in tight with lots of time. It was nice though because I've been struggling of late. Hopefully this'll help get us on the right track." Rookie right-winger Sergei Berezin has been struggling with only 2 assists in the club's 1st eleven game. Berezin started the year with the former Huskies, playing on a line with Wayne Gretzky, where he had a very successful pre-season, but has yet to score his first career WHL goal. "He's had his chances but still has to work harder," assistant coach Kevin Primeau said, "the same goes for Dvorak. They have alot of flair around the net but have to quit trying to make everything fancy. It's a simple game and we're not overly worried right now." With Martin Brodeur on the trading block in Hamilton, rumors abound that the Vikings are among the most interested parties. "He's a great goaltender, no question, but I'm not going to pillage our system for one player. Jamie (Storr) has looked really good the last few games and is starting to settle down. I'm not willing to make a big trade right now. If Larry can't move him for a few months it'll give us a chance to re-assess our situation but right now we're more than happy with our goaltending," Lee McEwen told reporters after putting 9 past Brodeur Wednesday night.
