He talked about what a great team, he has, "We are closing in on Bangers, and we are leaving Mallrats behind us" said Larsson with a happy smile. The press asked Larsson why the team has done so well? -"It's easy. We play like a team, were everybody play for eatch other. No player is more valuble than another. After defeating the hapless SPARROWS by a 4-2 score the LUNATICS visited Saskatoon to play a team they saw as whipped and disgruntled. Paul Coffey stated, "The two losses to the Raptors real woke us up, I mean we were playing well and thought that the easy teams would just roll over. We came out hard against the SPARROWS but knew that we were in tough against the LUNATICS. The Huskies skated on to the ice and they immediatley attempted to intimadate the LUNATICS as Glenn Anderson grabbed Mark Recchi and started a fight before the puck was even dropped. When asked what the reason was Glenn said, "The guy was acting like his team was all that. He thought that we were just going to give them two points because we haven't been playing well so I showed him where he could shove his attitude and then I dropped him." The fight obviouslly sparked the HUSKIES as they opened up their scoring with only 1:13 gone as Shanahan connected from Oates. And from there the first line of the HUSKIES took over. Shanahan got a hat-trick and Oates added three assists. The highlight of the game obviously came when Huskie third-liner Phil Bourque absolutely hammered Jeff Beukeboom and walked right in on Jocelyn Thibault and defelected the puck in off of Thibault's mask. It seems that when the HUSKIES go hot they go really hot...let's just hope they can continue this play longer then a 2 game stretch, the HUSKIES next game is against the HITMEN who have been having a tough time of late going 3-7 in there last 10 games when asked what he expected Adam Oates commented, "Well, they have Chris Chelios and although he hasn't been performing you can't count a guy like that out. They'll come out hard because they're struggling but hopefully we can put a couple pucks in the net early and put them out of it." Reason to be pretty happy and most would think the GM's would be happy with their team's performance and stay away from the trades but not Shaun Driver. After Game 29, Shaun traded 2nd line winger Joe Juneau for a capable young defencemen who has not been performing to play beside Paul Coffey in Scott Niedermayer. Also, going in the deal was Taglianetti and the Huskies saw Hough put on the Green Huskie Jersey. However, little was the sporting world to know of the Blockbuster deal that took place with the AGENTS. Which saw the loss of tough guys Kevin Dineen and Enrico Ciccone, 2nd line center Dave Hannan, and superstar goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck. HOWEVER, the Huskies got some great players in return and have re-joined the OATES, HULL tandem by acquiring Stephane Fiset, Steve Yzerman, Brett Hull, and Carney in the trade. Fiset has not been performing well during the year and has big skates to fill in place of the BEISER but Shaun feels that he is up to the challenge...and if push comes to shove the HUSKIES will never stop from making deals to better the team. Challenge (Cut-Down) other teams...this is the place to rub it in or raise your superstars on a pedastool. ***** THE COMMISSIONER'S WEEKLY ALL-STARS ***** (From Game 27-30) Best Forward: Alexei Zhamnov of the EDMONTON VIKINGS who was the only consistent forward of the week. Many players exploded on some nights putting 4 points a night but were incapable of helping the team every night. Alexei played in 3 games over the week and tabulated a total of 8 points in only three games. Best Defencemen: There can be no argument when announcing the Best Defencemen of the week as Paul Coffey of the SASKATCHEWAN HUSKIES. Paul was gaining more points than many of the top players in the league while still holding a great +/-. In 5 games Paul mustered 10 points. Best Goaltender: No goaltender in the league played surprisingly well over the last week but Trevor Kidd of the MALLRATS seems to be the only standout despite getting pelted and letting in 7 goals in one game Trevor also managed to gain a shutout after facing 28 shots and had another game of facing 35 shots and allowing only one game. GM Lee McEwen had this to say after the latest victory. "Sure its tough to figure out, I mean on any given night I have no doubt that these boys can compete with any team in the league but there are nights where the effort just isn't there. Our lack of scoring depth is definetely hurting us on some nights. I mean Alex's line contributes almost 3 goals a game on average and the rest of the guys have to fight for 1. We've had more than our share of defensive breakdowns and Patrick has struggled but we're a point out of first with a couple games in hand so I'm not really worried." When asked why the only trade he has made was back in November McEwen had this to say. "I drafted these boys for a reason and that is I believe they can play. I won't hesitate to make a trade if it's a good offer that will improve the team's chances of winning the Cyber Cup. Chicoutimi (Qc) Yesterday the Chicoutimi Sparrows, led by their two new players Joe Juneau and Peter Taglianetti, managed to stop Sergei Fedorov and the Hermitage Gang Bangers, beating them 4 to 2. Fedorov, the leading scorer of the league, didn't get any point but had 6 shots on Potvin. Juneau, acquired in a trade with the Bridge City Huskies on Saturday, had 1 goal and 1 assist. Taglianetti had an assist on Juneau's goal. Before the game, the Sparrows announced that Pierre Turgeon would become their new captain, since Scott Niedermayer was traded. GM Mike Hebert: "We finally got a good offer. Niedermayer is a good young defenseman, but I guess he was not ready for all the responsabilities that we gave him. I know he will help the Huskies." If this is to improve and become more interesting then you have to get involved. Best Forward: How do you possibly separate two players on the same team who were so valuable as Mario Lemieux and Eric Lindros of the MALLRATS were. The two players went on a total point scoring rampage with "The Magnificent One" gaining the assists and "The Next One" putting the puck in the net. Eric Lindros scored a total of 9 goals in a total of 3 games. While Mario chipped in 8 assists in the same number of games. If these guys don't hit a slump and can continue at this pace we might as well hand the MALLRATS the Cyber Cup now. Best Defencemen: A week where the boys on the blue line decided not to show up on the scoresheet. It seemed that everyone had a good day and then didn't show up for the next game. Jeff Brown of the LUNATICS was not a huge step above any other defencemen but he did manage to gain 4 points in 3 games, gaining 3 points in one game. Best Goaltender: Goaltending was a strong aspect of the Web Hockey League over the past week with great performances by Trevor Kidd and Sean Burke. But without a doubt an outstanding week has been posted by Andrei Trefilov of the BLIZZARD. With a save percentage of .967 and a Goals Against Average of 1.00 Andrei backstopped the BLIZZARD to two huge wins against Norris Division rivals the VOODOO and the divison-leading HUSKIES. HEADLINE: Three Leagues Announce Special Playoffs SASKATOON (CP)- The Web Hockey League (run by Shaun Driver), the CyberSpace Hockey League (run by Lorne Clark), and the National Hockey League2 (run by Matt Pitt) have all agreed on terms to the "Ultimate Fantasy Hockey Playoffs". The three league have announced that the finalists of each league (ie. the top two teams) will automatically be entered in a competition to pit the talents of the best league teams against the best teams from other leagues in a round-robin event with a small play-off round. The leagues have from 22-24 teams and therefore are very evenly matched and it should be exciting to watch which league has the best team and how they fare against other league teams of the same calibre with the winning team being granted the title of "Ultimate Fantasy Hockey Team". It was the first shut out for goalie Jocelyn Thibault as a Lunatics. It also stared the debut of all-star defenseman Brain Leetch. Though Leetch didn't get any points in the game, he took over right from the face off leading the team to a 2-0 shut out. He should great defensive play while the time ticked down on the clock. It also was a great moral victory for GM Jason who later in the day had the Wolfpack back down from a month long trade discussion. After the game Captain Stu Grimson had this to say." We went out there totally pumped. Man with Brian in our lineup and when we found out what the Wolfpack did to our GM, that just pissed us all off. This wasn't just a win, this was a win for Jason and the team management." Gino Odjick also spoke to reporters, "After I scored the last goal I knew it was all over. It felt so good to shut out the Wolfpack, they were constantly saying how much more superior they were to us, and they were putting down d-man Blake and said he was nothing, I think we should them who was tops."
