If I could only play all my games at home. The Rapids downed the Hitmen to go 6-0 at home (1-6 on the road) thereby moving into a 2nd place tie in the Smythe. Theo Fleury scored his 10th goal of the season to put him on pace for 61 for the year, he's also on pace for 250 penalty minutes. Igor Korolev, who went scoreless for the first 11 games, has scored 3 goals in the last two after all the lines were adjusted by coach Bossy. Patrice Brisebois has assumed the "goon" role, he's on track for over 300 penalty minutes. Chris Snell has showed sparks of greatness at times, and easily leads the team with a plus/minus of +7. The Bangers lead the league in penalty minutes, and the Rapids hope to capitalize on that with the 2nd best power-play in the league at home. Jim Carey will be well rested after getting his first night off of the year last night against the Raptors as Tommy Soderstrom won his first game of the year. Waterloo Chronical: Early this afternoon the GM of the Lunatics Jason, exploded at some of his players saying they are playing like sane people. One of these guys was tough guy Tie Domi who played like a baby in the games he did play. That forced Jason to trade him away for crazy Todd Elik. Other players on the team are also becoming sane and GM Jason is getting to the point of kicking them out of the hospital and out of the organization. It is rumored that the whole team except Mark Recchi is on the brink of sanity. We also heard that those players going sane are all on block and that GM Jason wants major changes. The Whitehorse Star ------------------- The temperature was -30, but the Gold Rush Igloo sported a capacity crowd, as two third period goals by Mike Ridley & Darren Turcotte lifted the Rapids past the Hitmen. The Rapids are now 2- 0 against the Hitmen at home and will be on the road to face them again tonight. The Rapids are 8-1 at home, in contrast to their mirrored 1-8 record on the road. When asked about it, Coach Bossy replied that it is difficult for teams to fly this far to play hockey, and vice versa as far as we're concerned. Maybe that explains our success at home and terrible road record. GM Larsson: Well, I now I said that. And both me and Dave had agreed on trying to find a new team, but the interest was low, so I decided that Andreychuk will stay, and look now. He has started to play as he has always done before. Reporter #2: But what did coach Magic Nilsson said then? He was the one that said that Dave never will play as long as he was coaching the team. GM Larsson: I own the team. I told Kent that he should play the best team, and obviously Andreychuk is in one of them. Reporter #1: So, what do you think about the team so far? GM Larsson: It's looking good. Francis is leading the team as a captain should and MacInnis is playing like a god on the ice. But the thing that I as a Swede think is the most fun is that Ulf Dahlen is currently the best Swede in the league with his 22 points. Reporter #3: Do you think Dahlen can keep up this and stay ahead of powerful players like Renberg, Forsberg, and Sundin? GM Larsson: We'll see. Coach Nilsson moved Dahlen from the first line to the second to play with Bradley and Naslund instead of having Francis as a center. So now we'll see what Dahlen really can do. But if he keeps this up, he'll have a good chance of winning the "Viking Award" as the best Swede in the WHL. Reporter #2: Do you think that you can catch the Bangers? GM Larsson: I will be honest! No, I don't think we'll catch them. We will concentrate on taking a playoff spot in our very hard division. We are currently second, but we are chased by the Mallrats and the other teams. We only played 20% of the season, so anything could happen, but we'll do our best in every game. The Huskies waltzed in found all the holes in Jim Carey, who looked more like swiss cheese than a WHL goaltender. The Rapids started the scoring on a hard shot from Fogarty...but that was almost all the scoring that the Rapids could muster. The game then turned into the Adam Oates show...with a 1 goal and 3 assists night Oates had the Rapids defence tangled in knots. the most beautiful goal of the night came in the second period where Oates seemed wedged deep in the offensive territory but managed to spot a streaking Coffey from the point with a beautiful behind the back pass and Coffey rocketing the water bottle of the net behind a sprawled out Carey. The goal only seemed to frustrate the Rapids team as their team leader Theoren Fleury was heard yelling to his teammates to "Get your f*cking asses in gear!!!" On Wednesday, however, after winning such an important match the Huskies found themselves, at home, up against the hapless RAPTORS. The Raptors coach did an excellent job of getting his checking line up against Oates who, after having such a great game against the Raptors, find himself pointless in the contest. Despite the fact that the Huskies out-shot the Raptors they just couldn't seem to beat Blaine Lacher. When asked about his performance Adam Oates said, "I wish I could have 4 or 5 point nights all the time but I'm human and I gave it all I had...the Raptors did an excellent job tonight." Hopefully, the HUSKIES will be able to gain some more consistency as the season where's on but who knows with this team!!! (Shaun Driver, signature)
