Milton(AP) In a heart-wrenching move today, the Mustangs have traded away two of their most valued players. In a surprise trade, Mark Messier along with last season's All-Star MVP Goalie Eddie "The Eagle" Belfour, has been moved to Bridge City. Milton's GM spoke with us regarding the deal that also sees Chris Tancill, who had fallen out of grace, moved to the Huskies, saying; "This is the hardest move I've had to make. Mark cost us a lot, but we had to decide whether we were going for the cup this season, or build for the future. This trade says we are building for the future." We tried to contact Belfour, but he was unavailable. Messier was caught coming out of the Mustang's Ford Centre, and was asked to respond to this trade. He seemed pretty upset by it all; "I can't believe this!!! They sign me to a long-term contract, then trade me!? What the hell is that!?" Chris was a little more accepting of the move, "I realize I no longer fit into their plans, and I'm glad to be going where I may get more ice time! I know that Mark and Ed are mad about this move, but I think it is the best thing for me." Coming to Milton is Joe Sakic, who is seeing his third team this season! He doesn't seem to want to play in some cites...but figures to settle in Milton for a while. Also coming to Milton are Darren Puppa, a goalie of excellent credentials this season, and Rookie sensation Miikka Elomo. Shaun said of trading Miikka that he is their best player so far this season, but changes were necessary. Miikka will join fellow Rookies Wade Redden, Saku Koivu and Stefan Bergkvist in Milton. GM Howe had this to say; "With the added youth and speed this trade brings us, we may be a little more competative this season, and will vie for the cup within two seasons! We have three Rookies now whom can shoot for Rookie-of-the-year honours. And to Mark and Ed, all I can say is that I am sorry for moving them, but they will shine in Bridge City." Lets hope he's right!
