Something we haven't seen so many times so far this season. Newcomer Joe Nieuwendyk, who recorded 3 goals and 1 assist yesterday night, brought some more offense to a team who already had plenty but the place where he's having more impact isn't on the ice but in the locker room. Here's what GM Marc Hebert had to say about his team and his new acquisition: " The team lacked leadership and Joe brings a lot of that. Klima and Cote were good players and I was sad to let them go but we really had to move. Nieuwendyk is playing like hell since he's wearing the Corinthians jersey, in 4 games, he has 5 goals and 3 assists. Boucher has 3 assists. With Nieuwendyk and Primeau on the ice every night, the other teams will know that every game in Kingston won't be an easy one, and that they will get out of it with some bruises. With the addition of Nieuwendyk to the team, we now have a second line that could be almost every team's first. The first line, Sundin-Mogilny-Primeau, is one of the best in the WHL. The second, Nieuwendyk-Hull-Friesen is probably the best second line in the whole league and our third line, Reichel-Kron-Poulin can also do its part. The defense is far better that it was last season, with Lumme, Numminen, Chambers, Shaw, Boucher, Berehowski and Shaw. The only thing I have on my mind now is Stephane Fiset's performances. He was victim of a virus in the preseason games and never seemed to recover completely. The coaching staff decided to give him a week off to recover and so far, rookie Jason Muzzatti is doing well enough. He has a 3.75 GAA in 4 games but on the best offensive team in the league (77 goals, 4 more that the Dominators, avrg. of 4.3 per game), that should be enough to win his share of games." There was a rumour around the Kingston Coliseum this morning that the Corinthians we're trying to obtain some reinforcement between the poles. Apparently, the're was some discussions with the Sparrows but nothing came out. Hebert would be looking for a second tender, near 60 in ratings. He'd like to be able to keep Muzzatti but be willing to let him go if need be. The name of Jason Dawe was often mentionned in the trade rumours. - Luc Gelinas pour Sports 30
