Subject: WHL: Vikings Break Camp

Edmonton (AP) - The Edmonton Vikings made a few cuts and changes as they
prepare to kick off the 2nd WHL season.  Looking to the future is the
motto of this young and talented team.  Gone are all-star goalie Patrick
Roy and the Vikings first ever captain Brent Sutter.  New are Jamie Storr,
who saw action in only 4 games last year, Curtis Joseph, Chad Kilger and
the 16th overall selection in the entry draft Radek Dvorak.  Given their
outright release were spare parts Jason Wiemer, Jeff Chycrun and Victor
Gordiuk.  The Vikings problem last year was scoring depth and GM Lee
McEwen hopes that the addition of Dvorak and Kilger as well as improved
play from Scott Young, Bill Guerin, Todd Marchant and Steve Washburn will
change that.  "These kids have alot of scoring ability, if they can mesh
early in the year I think there is little doubt this team will score and
win more.  We had the best defensive team in the league last year
backstopped by Patrick Roy.  Unfortunately for Patrick the emergence of
Jamie Storr made it almost impossible to keep him.  It wouldn't be fair to
Roy or Storr to make one of them sit on the bench and Jamie is the future
of our team.  He has to be playing at the highest level to continue his
progress."  The Vikings still have to be careful with Storr and hope he
doesn't go in the tank or regress. If that's the case they might be in
trouble but they still have Curtis Joseph as insurance.  If Storr proves
to be as big as his hype early on, look for Joseph to be moved.  All in
all when one looks at the Vikings roster, it's tough to find holes.  They
should be able to contend for the Cyber Cup.
