Well the Quakers have gotten off to a flying start by winning their first three games of the season. The defeaed division rivals the Krushers and Monarchs as well as the Clowns. These games were played to a standing room only crowds at home at their brand new 20,000 seat arena, dubbed Peace Park. That seems to by paradoxical as the Quakers are leading the league in Penalty Minutes so far. In the second game, the Quakers and Krushers to set a WHL record for most combined in goals in a game with 17. this breaks the record hold by the Quakers and Warriors in season 1 who scored 16. Also impressive was the Quakers smashing the single game goal scoring record with 12 by themselves. Leading the offensive explosion were Dino Ciccarelli, Alexi Yashin and Jaromir Jagr. Yashin is tied for the league lead with 7 points in his first three games with teammates Jagr and Ciccarelli close behind with six. Also doing well statistically are all of the defensiveman contributing offensively. Coach Bob Johnson has been very pleased with the play of all of his rookies. Teemu Riijarhvi the Finnish import has scored twice and Brad Brown and Sean O'Donnell have been solid defensively. Last years weak spot has been special teams, but at least early some of these problems have been fixed. However, all is not well in the Steel City. Backup Goaltender Ron Hextall is unhappy that he lost his starting job to Craig Billington and has demanded a trade. Another trade rumor could have a big tough defensiveman to Pittsburgh. GM Todd Henry however has been very quiet on the rumors, but look for a move soon, since none were made in the offseason. Well, the fans of the Quakers are excited and hope that the Quakers can continue their winning ways and challenge the tough Mallrats for the division crown.
